Advice From a 30-something

This year, as I celebrate another birthday, I have the added bonus of having a new blog. To celebrate, I am sharing a little wisdom I have gained along the way.

Guys, I just have to say that I appreciate every single one of you that have wished me a happy birthday on iG and Facebook. And I am thankful to you for giving me your precious likes and for all the encouraging comments I have received since I started the blog. You are such an incredible group of people and I feel blessed to be alive in this age of technology where I can connect with people all over the world!

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
― Henry Ford ―

You Should Trust Yourself
The way you perceive your ability to do something determines the outcomes of your efforts. Trust yourself; It sounds simple but it never is. I cannot tell you how many times I have been stopped in my tracks from doing something because I did not trust myself to achieve it. I love this quote so much because it sums up what I am trying to say.

Everyone Needs a Mentor
No matter how much you trust yourself, you don’t know everything. There is nothing wrong with seeking guidance from someone that has already walked in the shoes you are trying to fill. Typically this is someone, or a few people, who has been successful at something you aspire to do. I have been blessed to have several people in my life that have mentored me in every endeavor. I find that having access to their wisdom has made my life experiences richer as a result.

You Should Travel: And Do It Often
I didn’t get bitten by the travel bug until my teens. The more I travel, the more I feel like I am running out of time. There is SO much to see! It’s amazing how beautiful the world and the people that live in it can be. Of course, be prepared to occasionally be uncomfortable as you learn more about yourself by being placed in foreign situations.

Don’t Be Afraid To Start Over
I cannot stress this enough! You WILL make mistakes. You will have to stop and start  over again. If you are like me, you may find that you make several mistakes. But the point of making mistakes is to learn from them: That is how you grow.

You Should Have Goals That Are Within Your Control.
Ok, so I’ll admit that I obviously have the luxury of looking back on decades of my life when I say this. We all make plans that are out of our control. For example, when I was 20, I was determined to be married by 23 and have all my kids by 25. Obviously, that came and passed with fresh goals of having kids before 30 (never mind the husband). You can already guess that God had other plans. Eventually, I was finally humbled into allowing the universe to do things that were out of my control. Instead, I focused on things I could control such as my career and education. I’ve been happier ever since.

If you follow me on Instagram, you already know I went to Brooklyn bridge park for my birthday.
I hope you found that helpful and I am looking forward to growing my Dee.Diary family.

Side note: I got this dress from ASOS two years ago! It matched my balloons and I was pleasantly surprised to find that it still fits! I basically still got it 🙂 right?!? The shoes are from Steve Madden.
XOXO

Its crazy reading this I heard myself. We have so much in common. I thought the same things about the kids and marriage. I had to let go and let God. And travel, that’s a must. Really enjoyed this article, thank you for sharing😊

Yep! sometimes you just have to trust the process and let the powers that be take control. The nifty thing I had to learn is that there are things outside of my control. Thank you SO much for reading!
