3 Days in Turks & Caicos

When your friend asks you to join her on a weekend trip to Turks and Caicos, there is only one appropriate answer. Yes! In my case,  she asked me almost 3 weeks prior to the trip but procrastinating-Dinah said yes, and then promptly forgot to purchase my plane ticket. At the time she asked, tickets were less than $250. Come and see me sweat when I checked 4 days prior to our departure date and the tickets were upwards of $500. You probably already guessed that I made the trip. Thank God for Delta Skymiles points! And boy, am I glad I went. I feel like I would be doing the world a terrible disservice if I didn’t share all the reasons you need to start packing your bags for a trip over to Turks & Caicos.

Home away from home

I was pleasantly surprised to find that in Turks & Caicos they use USD as their currency. The wall plugs are the same as in the US and everyone speaks English. Yeah, I know, obnoxious American expects everyone to operate like them but in this case it is actually the case 😁. Most carriers have an international plan for Turks &Caicos. In my case, I put my phone on airplane mode and used wireless calling and whatsapp to keep in touch.

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #1″]You are going to need that bug repellent. Not only are they loud at night, they bite! A lot![/accordion]

Short flights

A short 3 hour flight from NYC means you can easily book a weekend trip to T&C for a little R&R. Sometimes that is necessary. I had one carry on and probably packed more than I needed but it felt good to be gone for a shorter period because I didn’t miss much at work.

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #2″] Book your hotel before your flight. For some reason,  plenty of the hotels start at $500 a night and you only get them cheaper if you look for deals.[/accordion]

Beautiful beaches, duh!

This place is incredible! I have been to a lot of Caribbean beaches in my day but the blue of this water took my breath away. Even on a rainy day it was glorious. Make sure to pack lots of swimwear.  And if you don’t swim, no worries,  they offer swim lessons

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #3″] Pack your sunscreen. It is hot! And the prices in T&C will rob you blind. You do not want to have to buy sunscreen there [/accordion]

Fresh Seafood

The food here was sooooo good! Everything was fresh and not processed.  We ate at a Japanese sushi place and the fish was amazing. The hotel food was great. If you stay at the Oceans Club Hotel, make sure to order the brownie and ice cream.  It was OMG epic!

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #4″]Many of the great food spots are booked months in advance. Try and book your spot as soon as your flight is booked[/accordion]

Amazing Ice Cream

Seriously, the raisin rum ice cream I had at giggles was amazing… and fresh!

Lots of things to do. Think water sports.

Seriously, there is so much to do here. My plan was to veg out on the beach, catch up on my reading and get a tan during my three days in T&C and is exactly what I did for 3 days. But I was impressed with just how much there is to do here.  Check out this Instagram account for Turks & Caicos if you don’t believe me. You can spend your day island hopping,  snorkeling, diving, parasailing, horse back riding, cliff diving… you get the point. Most hotels can set up your activities for you or you can sign up for some online prior to your trip.

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #5″]Plan a few extra days, the weather is unpredictable and you don’t want to be stuck with rainy days. Better yet, check the weather before you book.[/accordion]

Cheap Flights

My friend’s flight was $247 on Jetblue. I had points with Delta so I only had to pay $90 in taxes. I probably would have flown Jetblue as well had I not procrastinated to the very last minute.

[accordion title=”Travel Tip #6″]Look at hotel prices before you book your trip. And when you check out,  look at your bill. Mine had “computer glitch” charges 🤔[/accordion]

Amazing Sunsets

I’m just going to let the photos speak for themselves.

Impromptu trips are the best. You don’t have too much time to talk yourself out of them and they end up being some of your best memories. I’m so glad I made the trip to Turks & Caicos. Despite the fact that prices are high in Turks & Caicos,  I absolutely recommend a short trip there. I thoroughly enjoyed my three days there and I suspect you will too. I mean, look at it! It is easily one of the most beautiful places I’ve visited. Plan your trip and thank me later.
