10 Instagram Worthy Things to Do in Bali

Raise your hand If the first month of 2017 hit you like a ton of bricks. It’s a new year yal! I cant believe the last time I said anything on here it was 2016. In an attempt to be productive this year,  I decided to it was time to write this long overdue post about my top 10 Instagram worthy things to do in Bali. As it turns out, the universe had other plans and I spent the last three weeks recovering from a flu that had me imagining that I knew what hell felt like. But thank God that is over with and I’m actually able to concentrate for more than two seconds to write this.

If your new year resolution is to travel more, I offer this post in an attempt to put Bali on your list.

On a whim last year, I booked my flight to Bali. I had already requested the time off work and I had every intention of travelling through the south of France and Italy with my husband. That is, until I came across a round-trip ticket to Bali for under $800! Needless to say, that was the end of that euro trip. I am SO glad I booked that flight! I meant what?! Bali is one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited! Here are 10 instagram worthy reasons to pack your bags for a trip to Indonesia…

1. Tegalalang Rice Terrace

So fair warning, you are going to have to climb down about a hundred and fifty flights of stairs to get down to these rice terraces. Totally worth it once you get in there. I suggest you wear something cotton (because you will sweat) and some sensible shoes. I clearly wasn’t thinking about instagram on this day, so my picture is sans pretty summer dress and pretty flowy hair in the wind…  le sigh.

2. Parasailing !

We did this in Nusa Dua, definitely recommend this one with a friend. Feels good to be on top of the world.

3. You get to meet elephants

Ok listen. If you are not an animal person, maybe this is not for you. But these animals are so gentle! I got trunk hugged by one of them while I fed it and it was like being arm hugged by a very hairy man. Totally epic moment. I mean look at my face!

PRO TIP: Bali doesnt have elephant santuaries where the elephants room free like in Changmai, Thailand. I have to admit that I would have preferred to interact with these glorious creatures without those heavy chairs on their backs but still an amazing experience to be so close. I did draw the line at riding on top of them. Just didnt think that was right.

4. Visit Uluwatu Temple

Uluwatu temple is definitely a must see. Its got beautiful ocean views and you can stay and watch a traditional dance at sunset.

5. Visit the Monkey Forest

The monkeys are picture worthy. And you can feed them for an insta-worthy picture.

PRO TIP: Don’t be like me, take a darn banana with you if you don’t want to be bitten on the back. I got bitten on the back by that asshole because I didn’t have a darn banana. Don’t worry. I didn’t get rabies.

6. Go White Water Rafting

PRO TIP: Be warned. There are A LOT of stairs to climb down to get to the water. Can you tell there are a lot of stairs in Bali? Still worth it. Take a friend , a waterproof camera and you can thank me later.

7. Visit the Local Market in Ubud

Take some cash and be prepared to overpay for whatever catches your eye. Don’t get kicked out of the store in favor of a “better customer” like I did after trying to negotiate with a seller. This place makes for a super colorful backdrop to your photos.

8. Watch Locals dance

If you are a travel photographer, you want to get a few shots of the local dances. They are amazing to watch and the pictures are captivating. This one was taken in Jimbaran bay at a random local seafood joint.

9. Climb Mount Batur

Where do I Start?! The view at the top is magnificent! Will the climb kick your butt? Quite likely. Is it possible that you will get to the top and not see the view? Yah! Be prepared, the cloud cover is unpredictable. But it is sooooo worth it!

10. Have a Beach / Pool Day

Come on, who doesn’t want to lounge on the beach or at a pool with a cold drink? I mean, its Bali!

PRO TIP: Book a hotel room with a private room. YOur instagram page will thank you 🙂

BONUS SECTION

Agrotourism :

This is where I drank coffee made from the poop of a luwak. The coffee is meeeh! But you might like it. It was still a cool experience especially after I watched the bucketlist movie

Sunset Dinner at Jimbaran Bay:

The food was amazing and the sunset was romantic. I was too distracted to take any pictures of the actual sunset, which is why this is in my bonus section. But google jimbaran bay sunset, it’s worth it.

Tanah Lot Temple:

Way too many people at sunset! You might have better luck at sunrise? Idk, still a cool temple.

Visit the Silver Village:

I bought silver and gold and it was cheap! I don’t necessarily think you will get amazing pics here which is why its in my bonus section but its still worth it to visit to see how they work and score some cheap jewerly.

If you are considering visiting Bali… do it! There is so much to do and see there. Its the kind of place that has something for everyone. If you are reading this because you are considering a trip there, do read my other post on things to consider before you go. Let me know if you have any questions. Happy New Year folks!

yes! as soon as i saw that, we booked the tickets same day. The country itself is SUPER cheap and the housing is too so truly the air tickets were the biggest splurge
